I have summarized a few common questions related to the available Imprimo version. Please feel free to add your question in case that I have missed it 😉

Q: Do I need a 3D printer to build the Imprimo?
A: No, a 3D printer is not required. All parts required to build the Imprimo are included, including a carbon frame and moulded canopy parts.

Q: What’s the difference between the Imprimo, Imprimo FPV and Imprimo FPV-HD?
A: The base Imprimo does not include a camera. It is best for fun speedy indoor flying without FPV. The Imprimo FPV version uses a low latency FPV camera for a best FPV experience, but does not provide a recording option. The Imprimo FPV-HD version has a full-HD camera installed including a DVR for recording on microSD card. Both FPV versions of the Imprimo have a 5.8 GHz video transmitter compatible with a wide range of video goggles.

Q: Can I upgrade my base Imprimo to either the FPV or FPV-HD version?
A: Yes you can. All Imprimo versions are fully compatible with each other. Parts are identical and can be removed / added per your preference.

Q: Is the Imprimo BNF (Bind-and-Fly) ready?
A: Yes, supported are Spektrum and FrSky systems. Please select your preferred choice during the order process.

Q: How do I control the Imprimo?
A: You can use a Spektrum radio or a FrSky radio such as the popular Taranis radios. The remote control of the Xtreme V2 is supported as well. Make sure that you select your preferred protocol version during your purchase.

Q: Where do I get spare parts for the Imprimo?
A: The following parts will be available and listed online soon after the Imprimo has started to ship:

    Drone Art 300mAh 2s 35-70c LiPo Battery
    Imprimo 1935-3 Prop Set
    Imprimo 1103 7500KV Brushless Motor
    Imprimo F3 20X20 FC w/RX
    Imprimo 4n1 20×20 BLHeli_S ESC
    Imprimo Micro AIO Camera 5.8GHz
    Imprimo Micro 1080p HD Camera
Imprimo HD VTX & Recording Board
    Imprimo 75mm CF Main Frame
    Imprimo Silicone LiPo Pad
    Imprimo LiPo Retention Band
    Imprimo Hardware Set
    Imprimo Canopy Set

Q: Where can I download the STL file for the Imprimo?
A: The STL file will be added to the Imprimo download section as soon as the first units start to ship later this month. A link will be provided here.

Please add your additional questions below and I will help to answer them.

    Best regards,
    Chris aka MatLi

Nice! love the Packaging, very clean. Now for my next question, when will the 3D print files be available for this?

Yes, it certainly will. I have already requested the official file from the development team in order to upload it to our Thingiverse account and to the product page itself. I’ll keep pushing for the file to be released. It will – that’s a given 🙂  Keep you posted here.

    Cheers,
    Chris.

Hi Marc. Thanks for jumping in to the discussion. We are pushing for the HD version. The Chinese New Year caused a bit delay in the HD version release. We’ll share schedule updates here as they become available.

any word on the ship dates of the HD? or an update as to the status of it?

We had to replace the HD camera lens since the FOV was not correct; slightly too narrow; and we did not want to ship it that way. The Imprimo-HD “golden sample” is under review right now. We don’t anticipate any further hold-up and therefore have scheduled the release by end of the month.  Will post another update here once the final release date has been confirmed.

Happy to report that I received my Imprimo FPV-HD today in the US. Shipped and packaged well, as per usual high standards for RCL/Droneart. I’ve unpacked it and I think I’ve got all the parts…I don’t typically build drones from complete scratch, so was looking for build instructions. Do you guys have a video up yet or additional documentation? For the NovaX and Navigator series, there were some great how-to videos on how to set-up. Hoping there’s something similar?

Also, I thought I saw somewhere that there might be a little something “extra” for the early adopter pre-orders. I’m happy enough with the Imprimo itself, but just wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything in my kit. Thank you!

      Hey Sam,

Glad you found the instructions.  We also have them in print to go into the packaging, but didn’t get them into initial boxing due to a few changes. But as always the online documentation is certainly the most up to date.

In terms of a few extra’s I am checking with our team as we did plan to send out a few extra goodies for those that placed the pre-order and waited it out.

So thanks for your patience and I’ll update you once we check the system on the pre-orders.

Definitely hope you guys enjoy and if you have any questions at all you know where to find us. 🙂

      Best regards,

      Jamie

Thanks Jamie! I couldn’t wait and decided to start the build tonight. Pretty straightforward and quick, until I got to the part about installing the HD-FPV camera unit. It comes with the thin ribbon inserted into the VTX, and it looks like you have to disassemble the camera from the VTX in order to thread the thin ribbon through camera mount and the main body and then reconnect to the VTX. I don’t want to forcefully remove the thin ribbon from its connector on the VTX…is there a trick to unplugging it? Or do I just pull really firmly? I am afraid of ripping or damaging the thin ribbon, it is really snugly connected to the VTx.

Also, on the VTx, I see the button for changing channels…but how do you start and stop your recordings?

        Thanks for your advice!

that thin ribbon comes off of the board, it has a sliding lock that moves like a millimeter or two…. it also took me a min to figure it out.. then rigging up the two canopy pieces was a pain but i got it, make sure you really “click” in the board to the lower shell

Thanks! Is it the darker grey piece that is adjacent to the light plastic piece? And do you push it upwards away from the green board, or do you pull it laterally (sideways) toward the ribbon? I could not get mine to move, so wonder if I should focus on the dark grey piece or the light tan/white plastic piece.

Do you have yours up and flying yet?!

yes it is, its the piece that is connected the circuit (far forward piece) i cannot remember if it was colored different than the insert, but i used a very dull exacto blade to slide the *****RIBBON HOLD DOWN*** out toward the ribbon and the ribbon itself came flying out (not in a bad way). the hold down moves ever sooo slightly… so be cautious and you shouldn’t need to force it…. then when ready click it back in and push the connector back.

and unfortuanly i do not have it flying yet, i though the V2 controller came with a battery so i had to order one. but then i also ordered more chargers and actual batteries for the drone as well, so praying amazon comes through and ill have them by thursday…..

as for the ribbon ill try to get photos on here for you in an hour or so.

Sorry for the delay and greasy hands (was working on my truck today)……

this image is of the ribbon connector popped/opened to release the ribbon, note how small of a gap or extension of the black piece is moved down/toward the ribbon.

            IMG_5400

this image is of the board and ribbon as it came (camera attached to the board) , but as you can see i pulled my Imprimo back apart for the photos so it was already routed properly….

            IMG_5399

this is the ribbon completely removed with the connector still open……

            IMG_5401

            i hope this helps,

This is awesome and exactly what I was looking for. Thanks man! I slid the grey piece down towards the ribbon and freed it. I’ll try to finish the build tonight and then leave tomorrow for configuring Beta flight and binding to my TBS Tango controller.

Thanks again for your help and the pics, what a great community!

An update from me: I bound up my Imprimo to my TBS Tango and popped into Betaflight to set modes and channels. I think I have angle, horizon, and acro/airmode set up correctly, but the colors of the LED’s are not matching what is in the online instruction manual…do those need to be updated, or are my modes set up wrong?

Also, I saw Camera Control 1, 2 and 3 as modes that I can map to a toggle, which I assume is how you start/stop recording. I mapped to one of my 2-way switches, and I can start recording, but I cannot stop recording (no matter how often I toggle). Any suggestions?

I am also getting what seems like vibration in the stack which is making the quad shake and not fly smoothly. Trying to troubleshoot this.

Finally, I think one of the blue LED’s on the rear of my receiver board is defective or gone. I only have one blue LED on the receiver board, to the bottom right of the cam. Bummer. Droneart, anything you can do to help??

On a fun note, I got a cool follow-up package with a Droneart hat (very nice quality) and racing gates! Thanks Jamie for getting that sent out! Super cool and makes me feel all appreciated for being an early adopter and long-time supporter. Cheers!

Thanks SamMateo! We are going to address the reported issues. I have requested Jamie and David, both are key members of the dev team, to look into the feedback provided during the past few days.  I am currently away and can’t really contribute much while out of the office. I’ll remind the guys again.

Glad you like the gates – they are really awesome.

    Hey community,

Hope everyone is doing well.  Wanted to touch base on the vibrations in the video issue that some of you are experiencing.  We have found that the current stock prop isn’t performing as well as original props we had in testing.  We are not sure if it’s a change in the chemical makeup (they were changed to be more flexible so they didn’t break as easily) or a balancing issue or what, but we are looking into this with our supplier to determine what might be the cause.

With that said and also with their being some delay to the props coming online (especially now if we have to make changes to the production of the props), then an aftermarket prop that we can recommend as it has been tested by our team and proven to perform much better in removing a lot of the current jello in the video is the Gemfan Hulkie 1940 props.  These just recently came to market.

Usually of course we always encourage you to make purchase of the stock components, but as props is something that needs replaced often and we don’t want you guys being stuck without flying, then we’d give these a recommendation. You might be pleasantly surprised by the improvement.

I won’t give links here as there are many places they can be purchased from, but just search … Gemfan Hulkie 1940 … and you’ll easily find them, including in an array of different color options. Also just make sure it says 1940 as there is also a 2040 version as well, and those won’t fit, they rub the canopy.

    Hope that helps!

    Hey guys,

Just a little insight, the stock prop is confirmed to be a cause of a lot of the vibration issues as mentioned previously. We are looking into this and apologize for this occurring.

These video’s are unlisted, but thought you guys might appreciate seeing them, so you can see for yourself that production props need re-looked at from the production line to determine why they are so far out of balance from previously tested versions.

So since we want to ensure we get it right and want you to have confidence that we are working diligently on the issue here’s a video comparison.

    Stock production prop flight:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHIicx-npUQ

Flight with new Gemfan 1940 props:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L09mrTaI1vs

As you can see the results are night and day. There is still a slight amount of jello, but we feel confident we also have some solutions to improve on this as well from tuning and a few other things we have in testing.

Again please note these video’s are unlisted, so we’d ask you not share them outside of the forum. But we wanted you guys to get a little insight of the testing that is actively occurring, so you’re just getting raw footage.

I hope  you guys will give us the opportunity to get everyone up and enjoying the Imprimo HD the way we intended for it to be.

Jamie and the Drone Art Team
